Come and discover Île de la Cité, historical seat of royal power until the 14th century
The Ile de la Cité is an island located on the Seine, considered the ancient cradle of Paris, formerly called Lutèce. From the 3rd century AD, this island was the seat of royal, judicial and religious powers. The western part of the island hosted the Royal Palace of which the Palace of Justice is the heir. In particular, the Parliament and other institutions sat there: the Chamber of Accounts, the Court of Aid, the Treasury Chamber, etc. The eastern part of the island, for its part, was devoted to religious worship with Notre-Dame , the bishop's palace, the canonical enclosure for the canons and the Hôtel Dieu. Today, the island is the administrative center with justice and the police.
