Visite guidée : Paris Cachée; Nouvelle Athènes, Paris of the Romantics and the Birth of Cabarets

Paris contains some wonderful areas that hide the secrets of the past. Let's uncover the best of these in our new "Paris Cachée" tour series. This first tour will take us to la Nouvelle Athènes. Called South Pigalle today, although the area might not seem like it has "star-studded" famous sites, it was the heart of intellectual and creative Paris from the 1820s until around 1860, a period called the Romantic Era. As we tour the area's seemingly quiet streets, we'll learn about this intriguing period, see where some of its famed residents lived and spent time as well as witness how the north part of the district became the nightlife capital of the city at the turn of the 20th century, filling with over 50 entertainment facilities from cabarets to a circus.

Guide: Lily Heise, the President of the ACP Board of Directors, is an experienced Paris tour guide and writer. She loves uncovering the lesser-known history, secret spots and fascinating personalities of the city.

You can register until Thursday, 20 February 2025 inclusive.
